Growers Notes... New Species or Not??

Lophophora Williamsii
var. weisse Bluete

Lophophora Williamsii var. weisse Bluete is definitely an interesting form of within the Williamsii family of plants. Once again it is another of the famous labels offered by different growers without any known original location data, but simply a plant without origin and a name provided due to its rather unique appearance. Plants within my own collection have proven to be self sterile, and shoot flowers slightly different from the typical Williamsii variation in that flower petals are fewer, yet longer and sharply pointed very similar in nature to those of the pentagona, and Huizachi varieties. the one exception to the similarity is that the skin of the weisse Bluete variation is much darker in tone than those of the pentagona variation and slightly greener than the typical Williamsi variation, yet seem to match those of the Huizachi plants I have been growing.
