Stenocereus Eruca "Creeping Devil" Here you will find pictures and information on the genus of Stenocereus Eruca, "The Creeping Devil", found growing in Baja California. I have been growing this plant for a number of years now and, this is the first summer that it has begun to flower for me. The cactus grows from 3 to 4 inches thick and grows creeping along the sandy floor in the coastal plain regions off the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The plant can grow in lengths of up to about six feet long (roughly 2 meters). As the stems grow along the sandy surface, their roots develop along the potion in contact with the sand, and never travel very deep (Only about 4 to 5 inches in depth) Branching is common as this is one of two ways the plant propagates, often dislodging a branch which continues to root and grow on its own. The other manner of propagation is through seed of course which is said to develop off the flower once dried and pollinated. Here is where the learning starts for me and you people out the in Magicactus Land. Is this plant self pollinating or self sterile? We will soon learn the answer to this question as I watch and collect the dried flowers this summer.
