Lophophora Plant Sales

Plant list updated December 13, 2017

New Winter Warning
Temperatures are still somewhat mild, at least here in Ontario. At present I am still mailing plants throughout the country. Most Lophophora can take temperatures of minus five to minus ten degrees for short periods of time, like overnight, and plants wrapped in boxes bare root should not reach such temperatures during transport if only a couple of days. The caespitosa variation is the most sensitive to cold temperatures.

If you order plants, they will probably be ok as i have not lost a plant to the cold in a few years but, I cannot guarantee delivery to the province of BC because it just takes to long for delivery, and their postal workers tend to leave packages in the snow which is not good. The entire BC postal system seems to make itself different from the rest of the country. If you trust your post man to take better care of your packages in your area then feel free to order otherwise the best I can say is wait for spring.

Description

Special Variations. The following list of plants are all of the Lophophora Williamsii variety but are quite special because they are hard grown from seed, from plants with location data that have been carefully preserved to maintain the purity of the line.

Pictured here below is a batch of the Big Bend variation ranging from 5.5 to 6cm in diameter, planted in 6.35cm pots.
The plants listed for sale were planted Nov. 6th 2015.

I basically get the equivalent of 15 years of growth per year compared to habitat growing years. Therefore in habitat years the plants are equivalent to thirty plus year old plants. This variation of Lophophora is the slowest growing I have experienced making them about two thirds the size of any other variation I have encountered for its age. Not only are they the slowest growing in the Genus, but they are also the hardiest.

The Big Bend variation comes from the highest altitude of all the Lophophora variations making them able to withstand the coldest temperatures. This alone qualifies them as possibly having the ability to produce the highest percentage of the alkaloid Mescaline, because it is the alkaloids that protects the plant from the environment. I also learned a couple years ago with the fire that engulfed my collection, that the Big Bend variation can take the most extreme heat as the fire was directly under the tray of Big Bend plants, yet they survived while all other variations around them died. Read more about this plant on my special page for it in the Growers Notes section of the website. Here is a direct link big bend

Special Variations. Here below you will find my most recent batch of L. Williamsii var. menchaca for sale. It has been a while since I have offered this variation but it is here now for you to take advantage of. The menchaca variation has been acclaimed to have the most perfect form within the Lophophora Genus. Even cooler is the fact that they are possibly the largest growing variation with heads in habitat measuring over ten centimeters. The only other variation that comes close in size would be the El Oso variation. These plants are also self sterile meaning you need to cross two of them to produce seed. Read more about this plant on my special page for it in the Growers Notes section of the website. Here is a direct link menchaca . The plants are now a little larger than pictured reaching and breaking the 6cm in width.

newSpecial Variations. Here below you will find something very special. You will find members of my very first L. Williamsii var. Big Bend batch of plants For Sale.

Here is a little bit of history behind the plants you find here below. This batch of plants was planted June 28, 2011 making them roughly 6.5 years of age. In June of 2014 there was a fire in my main grow room right under this batch of plants. All the plants growing around this batch perished in the fire or soon there after but somehow this batch of plants survived. They healed up, began flowering and once again became my main supply of seed to the public for this variation. Then about two years ago they got burned under my lights so they all have some slight growing pain scars but are still growing nicely. Considering that i get the equivalent of fifteen years of growth per year, each plant would be equal to an example of about 97 habitat years of age.

I have now decided it is time to offer a couple trays of these beautiful super tuff plants to the public. The plants are large enough now that they have begun to pup, so they are turning into beautiful clumps with many flowering heads. Considering there age all the plants have growing pain scars and they are priced accordingly... the fewer the scars the higher the price. I gaurantee that all scars eventualy grow themselves out, and most are hardly noticeable. Here below is a shot of a few in a tray of what will be offered and I will with time add pictures of individual plants for sale as they flower and i am able to get to them. In the mean time if you are able you can make an appointment and pick out plants from the entire collection before i get to taking pictures.
